THINK KENYANS THINK
I seat at my desk and wonder what my very first blog would be like. Having been in the Tourism Industry for 3 years now, I can comfortably write something concerning this very involving industry. Since the terror attack at Westgate on 21st September 2013, I shudder at the memories; the industry has suffered a great deal in terms of the number of tourists visiting our country and by extension a big blow in our economy. The Ebola epidemic also scared away quite a large number of clients making them opt to visit Europe and Asian countries. As a Tour Consultant….well, who am I kidding, in the making, I take it to myself to address such atrocities instead of dismissing it by saying what any normal Kenyan may say…’serikali inahitaji kufanya kitu’ loosely translated to the government needs to do something.

Now a few days ago, I was in my mother’s office and she was giving me a piece of advice as I was about to start my in-training. In the lengthy motherly advice she shared with me, there’s one remarkable thing she told me. She said that in our industry, the tourism industry of course; a challenge that is affecting this industry is not the terrorism, poaching or political instability. No. The biggest challenge affecting Tourism is our response to those challenges. Yes, I know the terror attack is a big challenge to not only the industry but also to the country and its inhabitants and to the world as a whole. But what do you do after hearing on the news that the oldest elephant which was a dear friend not only to the herd of its kind but also to the rangers ‘personally’ has been mercilessly annihilated? What do you do when you see tourists being hijacked and kidnapped while on a holiday trip at Mombasa? Many of us may lament about the negligence of rangers in the park or maybe poor security measures at the lodges; but after that move on with life like nothing ever happened. What if we sat down after a tragedy hits and find a strategy of handling it and carry it out to see if it works? What if we decided to even form a group of surbordinates where we can meet and do brainstorming after an incident has taken place and draw out a work plan of handling it then undertake it and look back and see how effective it was or it wasn’t? What if we decided to act on those poachers only and let the rangers continue with their work? If you ask me, I think it would make a whole lot of difference. I think if we all take the initiative of handling matters in our hands and acting all patriotic by protecting what is ours, as a country we could not do so bad. 5, 10 years down the line, we could lament on how few hotels we have because of the large numbers of tourists visiting our country and forget we ever had bigger tragedies as poaching ever again.

MASHUJAA DAY CELEBRATION

Mashujaa Family Fun Packages | Mashujaa Day Travel Offers |Discounted Mashujaa day Getaways

This is a day set apart in the Kenyan calendar as a national holiday to appreciate and recognize our freedom through struggle from the colonial regimes from the British.

The first Mashujaa day was celebrated in Kenya on the 20th October 2010 after the name was changed from the old name of Kenyatta day and as there was a campaign in the same as to rename the holiday to appreciate the many Kenyans who fought and put their life on the line for the sake of our freedom from a colonized nation.

This day has also brought recognition for our sportsmen and women men and ordinary people   who have done extra ordinary achievements for this nation of Kenya making us proud.

The success of the change of name for this day was made a reality for the first time with the promulgation of the new constitution in Kenya.
The man who has been in the front line campaign for the renaming  of this day  is known as Man Nzoro who proposed this due to the fact that Kenya was not liberated by one person and so the Mashujaa day name was most relevant to let
all the freedom fighters feel honored for their great life struggles to make Kenya a free state as we also put to mind the current wars that we are still lacking  to free this nation from famine, lack of basic amenities within our counties marginalized people and areas due to their   tribe, poverty and  such issues should be addressed as there is still oppression felt in this nation of  Kenya.

Mashujaa day meaning heroes day should be celebrated in style  with the reflection on the milestones this country has made since liberation from colonial ties and this day should bring abroad the road map for a better nation thus our current leaders should have a clear map and direction ensuring  that this country is free from the past struggles over the centuries and it should bring along the highlights on the  development of this nation on a forward gear  to make this nation have admiration to the rest of the world enabling us to gain more on investors.

Fountain safaris have ensured that you will Celebrate this day in style as you tour this beautiful nation with great people, wildlife, parks, for the best and pocket friendly tours You can check our Mashujaa  getaways HERE

Get Your Reward When You Travel

There are many reasons we travel. Sometimes you are required by circumstance for example a wedding in the family, or you are going for honeymoon or bereavement in friend’s family. Then you find yourself miles away from home.  But there are other times when you schedule on your diary, that this weekend I want to tour the Mara or London or Paris to see the Effie tower. No matter the circumstance there are immense benefits for traveling.
I will take you through 5 great rewards you get when you travel

Travel awakens your brains
Being in the same environment over and over again creates a norm which is not healthy and makes us so dormant but try at least once a month to move out from your comfort zone called home go even though it’s your next hometown you will realize later how much knowledge you have, how exposed you are to different culture and thus will help you to cope with different people and will make you an excellent leader.

Meet new faces
When you move away from your work station or residence it will help you meet new people who you could have never met, this will help you add your list of friends and nothing good like having friends all over the world you will always have a person to help you when you are in shit anywhere in the world. Maybe you are New York and you miss your flight and you don’t have a clue of a hotel which will meet your budget but your friend will always be there. Getting new knowledge from your new friends can be really helpful maybe you have been struggling with a problem and your new friends maybe the sent saviour to help you out.

See life from another perspective
What makes us continue with racism, tribalism is that we love looking one side of thecoin and mostly the negative one but don’t want to turn it over. But fear of change is the cause of our ignorance not until you travel it’s when you will stop looking at things like our grandfathers did.

Build confidence

When you move from your usual place – your comfort zone - and go to a place you have never been, and get involved in  new activities, this creates confidence and  resilience to try some more and to conquer new frontiers in your social and business life.

Creating memories
There is nothing great like hear people narrate stories of their childhood what they did, where they were taken by their parents, at the moment it just occur like you are having fun not until you realize the good memories that were created out of the fun. When you travel to a new place it’s very easy to remember that moment even in your old age, and to narrate it to other people who have never gone makes it more fun.
As St. Augustine says the world is a book and those who don’t travel read only one page.

WHY EYGPT AND ISRAEL THIS NOVEMBER

Do not miss the fun going down this November in Egypt and Israel great countries with a lot of adventures and developments to see.  Group trips to Israel from Kenya.

THE PYRAMIDS
One of the most famous ancient site in the world “THE GREAT PYRAMIDS AT GIZA” which are the main attraction in Egypt  most pyramids were constructed for burying pharaohs’ of those days and the bigness was for emphasizing their power and strength that they held in Egypt.

THE LAND OF MILK –ISRAEL
Facts about Israel
-Israel has the highest number of museums per head in the world.
-The Mount of Olives in Jerusalem is the world’s oldest continuously used cemetery
- Israel cows produce more milk per cow than almost any country in the world
-Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and economic opportunity.
The Promised Land
God promised the land of Israel to Abraham:
In the Bible Genesis15:17-18 -And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates.

DAIRY FARMING
DID YOU KNOW THAT ISRAEL IS THE COUNTRY THAT HAS THE MOST PRODUCTIVE DAIRY?
Israel is described as the land of milk and honey in the bible and Israel’s dairy herd is genetically made up of Israeli-Holstein Cows, characterized by their adaptability to harsh and varied climatic conditions. Israel has zero-grazing for dairy cows and some for beef cattle
The dairy sector supplies more than 80%of the country’s dairy requirements, with production potential greatly exceeding domestic needs.
Israel’s dairy herds supply 45% of the country’s demand for fresh red meat. The rest of local market demand is met by beef breed herds located in grazing areas

POULTRY FARMING

Israel’s poultry sector accounts for almost 1/8 of the country’s total agricultural
Broiler and turkey meat and eggs is among the highest in the world. In addition, ostrich are raised for leather and meat, primarily. Hot climate conditions in Israel necessitated the development of highly productive, disease resistant poultry breeds.

Other farming activities in Israel include:
-Bee keeping
-Aquaculture-fishing
-Floriculture-growing of flowers
-Sheep and goat rearing

GREENHOUSE FARMING
Production under protected conditions has become the principal way for Israeli growers to ensure a constant, year-round supply of high-quality products, while minimizing the use of chemicals. This method helps to overcome obstacles posed by adverse climatic conditions and a shortage of water and land all this and much  more happening in your number one tour company

ONE MAN'S JOURNEY

Sometimes we want to take a trip but we have the fear of venturing in a new place alone we really wonder shall I not be lonely? Shall I meet all the cost of travel? Will it be good leaving my friends behind? all those questions hinder us from travelling alone and you wait till that time you will get company, what if your friends are not fun of travelling? Does that mean you will stay indoors and just die there knowing only your home town let me take you through the benefits of travelling alone?

BENEFITS OF SOLO TRAVELLING

Solo travellers know how to live moments to their fullest because they know that won’t last for long, so if they are in the mountain tops, in the beaches, in the bushes enjoying the nature the solo traveler knows how to do that best.

They don’t blame anyone for their misfortunes on the planning of the journey!! Flights they miss, showing up a day earlier in the airport, for the accommodation they forgot to book it’s all their mess.

They ask for nothing less than adventure, they are always ready to take risk because no one is near to resist them doing that. This end up creating a lot of bravery in them.

Being their own boss set them free to do anything they like. When you are own boss you are open to change and you receive it with no restriction. You are the master of everything

Travelling solo helps you meditate on your life and make lifetime decision. Recreating yourself to a new being and focusing on what you want to be in life, leaving all behind and letting go of your worry.

You get to meet new faces and make great friends because when you travel with partners you tend to stick to them all the time without talking to other people. And some of the new people you meet when you are alone tend even to become your life partners.

You gain a lot of knowledge moments you take time away from home really create a lot of impacts to your life and get to know a lot of new things which were tales to you. Knowledge is priceless.

They believe in entertaining themselves because if they don’t do that no one will do they know how to bond with other tourist and others locals. And through that they end up being the greatest story tellers they got a sense of humor in their adventure stories.

Flexibility when you are alone is so important if you feel like extending your trip to another country it’s all upon you. You will do all you wish with no one giving different opinions of what they want. No one is there to insist you go to the beach while you want to go to hiking.

We fountain make great itineraries for solo travellers and we know the activities they enjoy most even when alone just give us a call +254705 648 246 or drop us an email info@fountainsafaris.com

THE WILDEBEEST MIGRATION IS ON

Wildebeest is also called gnu(pronounced as news) is in the family of antelopes in its Swahili name they are called "nyumbu montu". the wildebeest is among the biggest antelopes we have and its face resemble that of a bull, and its mane and tail are like that of a horse. wildebeest are strictly grazers but don't live for long without water, they inhabit in large plains of African savannah where there is a lot of grass. one unusual thing with the wildebeest is that they can sense thunderstorms  30 mile away and this helps them follow the rains across Africa making the great migration,  "the seven new wonder of the world" which occur  from June they shift from Serengeti to Mara in search for food. Its predators are mostly, the king of the jungle , the fastest animal, the crocodiles and us humans because of its sweet food called the blitong in South Africa. There are two types of  the black wildebeest or the blue wildebeest the difference can be seen in that Blue wildebeest tend to be a dark grey color with stripes, but may have a bluish sheen. The black wildebeest has brown-coloured hair, with a mane that ranges in color from cream to black, and a cream-coloured tail. not all wildebeest are migratory the black wildebeest are mostly nomadic and have regular homes like for 1squared kilometer. its now a high moment for us to start enjoying the great migration again . Lets travel to Mara.

Kenya Airways Dreamliner is home

We were all waiting for the bride Boeing 787 nicknamed "The Great Rift valley" to come and join our family Kenya and it finally arrived on 5th April and it’s now a month old atleast it’s already familiar with the Kenyan environment. We couldn’t hide the joy in our hearts as we ran around all Kenya airways sales centre to take the stickers which were on our cars, doorsteps telling everyone around us that we are flying our B787 Dreamliner thus the Kenyan spirit.

Our president was at the launch of the Dreamliner and he congratulated KQ for they have more of global reach than Kenyan embassies have and with his personal experience it has one of the best pilots and crew in the world. He also said a very promising thing that Angola are opening their embassies in Kenya and so we won’t be in a hustle to be going to Dar El Salaam just to get visas, and thus a huge relief to all Kenyans. Like the way we get excited and yearn to get that new phone in the market like the Samsung s5 or the latest model of car in the market thus the way Kenya airways also yearns for the latest and efficient types of planes in the market because the Boeing has great advantages like the greater fuel efficiency and more cargo space achieved by increased use of lighter plastic materials in the place of market, this is among the many so its upon you now to make sure you fly the Dreamliner because it’s here to give you that unforgettable flying moment that you have always dreamt of the cleanliness and the beauty already sets that good mood when you step on it. The Dreamliner is now flying regionally within East Africa taking winners of the Dreamliner competition and the staff on demonstration flights and it will start its services starting early June from Nairobi to Paris. So let’s fly our Dreamliner to Paris come June be among the first passengers on that plane.

The lost and found new heavens for flamingoes

Are you aware of a lake called Lake Oloidien  just next to LakeNaivasha? This is great news for those who are not fun of masses when they travel because Lake Oloidien is not known by many, the lake is known for the thousands of lesser flamingos found there. Originally the lake was a part of Lake Naivasha but later spilt up and now it’s on its own its about 25m higher and  200meters away from the orignal lake(Naivasha). The word oloidien means salty and  because of its salinity it produces spirulina which is the main food for flamingoes and this has attracted many flamingoes in the lake, just to be in the know you can know the difference between lesser flamingo and greater flamingo by just looking at them when they are together in the lake the lesser flamingo is smaller and has a red dark  beak with a black tip deep yellow orange eyes surrounded by a reddish brown ring, on the other hand  the greater flamingo is larger and  has pink beak with a restrictive black tip and got a pink skin from the eye to the beak. and many wonder where the flamingoes get their pink beautiful colour because they are hatched with the grey colour but the food they feed on make them look so stunning to be specific shrimp(beta carotene) the same natural chemical that turn carrots to orange. the same with human being what we consume affect our looks in a way  so eat healthy and you remain young and beautiful.

Lake oloiden is surrounded by acacia trees where you can find animals like zebras, thopmson gazelles waterbucks and many more found there.  This is a place  to be when you want to enjoy that sweet moment away from hustles and bustles of the city
