KAREN BLIXEN MUSEUM
From the Nairobi town centre, drive towards Ngong Hills to the Karen Blixen Museum. This museum was originally the home of Baroness Karen Von Blixen, a Danish author who settled in Kenya in the early years of the 20th Century.
The house, which was restored by the Danish government, was used during the filming of the Academy Award winning Film 'Out of Africa', which was based on Karen Blixen’s book with the same title.
With much of the original furniture is on display in the house, combined with the beautifully landscaped gardens and encompassing view of the Ngong Hills, the Museum continues to be very popular destination for international and local visitors
The original kitchen has been restored and is now open for viewing and it features a Dove Stove similar to the one used by Blixen as well as other Colonial period kitchen utensils.
Reconstruction of the coffee factory as an additional attraction is underway but some farm machinery from the Imperial Era is currently on display, depicting the early settler life in Kenya.
